INFO-COMMENTARY ABOUT THE ALBUM-
These are culled from other sources than my own-
~Jefferson Airplane's 3rd album, 2nd with Grace Slick, is a psychedelic masterpiece. After Bathing At Baxter's opens with some melodic feedback that segues into Pooneil, one of my favorite songs, and we are flying from there on. The live version of Pooneil included in the bonus tracks was originally meant to open the album up but it was declared to long for a single so the shortened it. Thankfully we have the live version because it is one of the best versions of the song there is. Martha is a nice ballady song written about the 14 year old daughter of the mayor of Sausolito, CA who would run away and go to visit the band. The Last Wall of the Castle is a bluesy pyschedelic song by their lead guitarist Jorma Kaukonen. Rejoyce is Grace Slick writing about James Joyce's "Ulysses." Spare Chanyge is a long, psychedelic instrumental that spotlights bassist Jack Cassady and Jorma. The album ends with the beautiful anthem Won't You Try/Saturday Afternoon.
~Released in 1967, After Bathing At Baxter's was an early test of meddle for Jefferson Airplane, one of the first psych bands to find themselves at the crossroads of art and commerce. Quite unexpectedly, they were pressured to choose between the shock commerciality of their previous LP, Surrealistic Pillow ("Somebody To Love," "White Rabbit") and what they were alternately offering up to live audiences up and down the west coast. They honorably followed their muse... and the result is one of the great psychedelic albums of all time. Throughout ABAB, the patented psych harmonies of Slick, Balin and Kantner are magically inventive, still carrying the purity of the era like a freak flag into the present. Jorma Kaukonen's fuzz guitar explorations were, and are, the essence of psychedelia, and you can even hear the Airplane out-Mother The Mothers of Invention on "A Small Package Of Value Will Come To You, Shortly," a short, in-studio chaos session.

THRIFT SHOPS CHARITY SHOPPES VALUE VILLAGES SECOND HAND STORES ARE WARZONES
Can anyone remember their early days of discovering the material wealth under the dust from days gone by, recycled for your consumption at the best prices you had no problem pillaging your pockets to grab those obscure and not so rare items of interest at a version of a Thrift store somewhere in your town or city?
I can now write with declaration intent, they have become horrible and not fun, with violent movements.
This is not new, of course. Since days of yore, seasoned collectors of variable scope who have been looking in these withered, dingy, mouldy awkward spaces for many years, have been subjected to pushy rude, obviously money grubbing collectors. I'm sure even we all have gone through a phase of feeling a bit pushy, hostile, or NEEDY GREEDY. One amazing phenomena that makes me ill, and sometimes crazy, is when I am flipping through (let's say) the first row of 5 rows of records, and someone comes on over, and starts on the other side.
Has this happened to you? ... You casually look over, and they are holding an obscurity, or just simply darn good LP you have been looking for, and they dust it off and start their little pile.
ARRGGG!! WHAT??
I have thought "Do they even know what that is? Are they just cherry picking?? Will they sell it to me?? "
Yep! This can be an aggrovating situation. Casual conversation can be the understanding gateway, but
it's getting increasingly tuffcity (yes I made the iconic hip-hop record label name into an adverb!
Just look at how it affected negatively many artists, who signed to the label), people are pretty tight lipped. I can usually tell who will be.
I'm not going to describe the type, as I might polarize or get some heavy glares at the next Record swap.
You can probably tell too. The nicest people to talk to at the bins are Oldtimers (over 60), women
and pre-ebay younger collectors. Occassionally, some young adult guys are not full of themselves, but most really are and have an air of collectors snobbery, and this runs across the gamut of genre collectors.
Heavy fast breathing and unsteady movements indicate an ebay seller.
Another little quirk in the record collecting quark. What's with the pushy resellers, coming, reaching over you and just making a pig of themselves, by not waiting their dogdamnn turn! I have used elbows in those instances. This is just the resellers, ebayers, you know. This is while you have to smell their over perfumed selves, or b.o., whilst feeling their rapid breathed stink mouth panting to get next to you and your zone.
Can anyone relate? I know I'm not alone!
What I started with at the top, was a very fond feeling, something I cherish, when things were simply and fun. I still do have fun collecting, but now it is more fun and gratifying sharing those old grabs here on the web when I have time. It's a muthaflicking warzone out there.
